Business Technology Summit

Locuz - SOI & SOM, Locuz way - SIM/CMDB/IDM, Trends No Comments »

Here too my paper got selected and am speaking at the Bangalore event.

The topic is same as the one I spoke at INTEROP but this time around, I will touch base on “Service Orientation for the Enterprise Cloud”. You may wonder, cloud is all about service orientation anyway so what would SOC (my musings on SOx, after SOI & SOM) – Service Oriented Cloud – be about.

As cloud definitions and perspectives evolve, we found our way to explain what goes within and beyond.

See you at the BT Summit.

Cheers!

INTEROP in India

Events, Locuz - SOI & SOM, Locuz way - SIM/CMDB/IDM, News, Trends No Comments »

The paper I presented got approved and I have confirmed to speak.

Hopefully the first INTEROP in India will match the scale and popularity it is identified with.

If you are visiting, ping me, I will be happy to meet.

SOI = “Unified Computing”

Events, Locuz - SOI & SOM, News, Trends No Comments »

Next week Cisco would announce their Unified Computing strategy codenamed “California”. These are blade servers that would sit right in middle of the Data Centre unlike all other Cisco products that found place in the network closet.

This in good sense is SOI we wanted to achieve and were seeking product maturity for levels of automation it would demand.

In our definition of SOI Orchestration is most vital and hopefully would soon be available across all Data Centre components. I am upbeat about the Cisco announcement.

Unified Computing = SOI, if I may conclude.

Cheers!

Data De-Duplication

Trends No Comments »

This is one technology adoption I am willing to believe will start paying back on the first day onwards. If seeing is believing, I have seen it and you can believe everything I am saying.

We were scouting for the best partnership that will enable us architect a solution delivering TRUE performance.

We chose Data Domain as our partner.

We just concluded a few pilots for some of the large organisations here in India and we stumped ourselves and the customer with the performance. If I am not going wrong with numbers, we managed 8-10x compression.

The logic is quite simple – the more the data, we store more, index more, search more, archive more and spend more. It is important to change this legacy. This is exactly what De-Dupe achieves for businesses.

The solutions we offer are not among solutions that guise to do deliver such benefits but are laser focused.

If de-dupe is the way to go, Locuz has the way to get it done.

Cheers!

Entitlement Management – the next big thing

Locuz - SOI & SOM, Locuz way - SIM/CMDB/IDM, Trends 2 Comments »

Entitlement Management (EM) pitched as something that delivers the layer outside applications to deal with entitlements which otherwise is within any application is the best direction in making SOA and SOI a greater business driver.

It is in real sense evolution of Secure Access Management with granularity that all lines of business with their applications would demand.

We have deployed Identity Management and/or Access Management solutions for few customers and I keep hearing about the business benefits they realized. Now if I think of EM for these customers and many others (with whom we are currently planning) will bring even greater benefits.

IDM and Secure Access Management are best known ways to scale the Enterprise Infrastructure among other things as Businesses demand quick ramp up. Entitlement Management will not just help scaling but will bring the flexibility in enforcing granular controls running as a shared service layer.

Here’s some interesting reading.

Who is your competition?

Trends 1 Comment »

The last couple of interviews that I gave to the press have been interesting. Everyone had this common question thru the line of discussion – “who do you think is Locuz competition in India?”

It all began with them trying to know why we de-merged with Choice (Oh! I haven’t put a post on our de-merger, but that is how it ended). Good for both of us, we will grow better and faster as independent entities than being together. Choice is a great company and so are we but that does not mean the cultures can be similar.

So getting back to the competition Q…

One of them asked – you guys have large clients like Suzlon Energy for whom you did Security consulting project around ISO27001 so is MIEL or Ramco your competition?

My Answer was “may be yes!”

He continued – but then you guys built the most advanced Computing and HPC site in India at CDFD so is your competition IBM or SGI in that space.

My answer again was yes!

The reporter continued, I also heard Locuz bagged the prestigious Storage deal from ISTRAC worth $ 2+ Million for tiered Enterprise Storage and earlier one from INCOIS for the Tsunami early warning project – so are you guy’s strong storage player competing SI like Wipro or Apara (with OEM like EMC, HP and IBM)?

The answer again was yes!

Phew! he said and decided to ask me who else we compete in other such specific area – I told him about how we won an Identity and Access Management project from on of the largest private Insurance companies in India against competition from CA and IBM.

I do not know what happened then. The reporter never got the answer for his Q – which was that one company he could write as competition to Locuz. He decided to call some other day…

There was a debate with another caller – “you seem to be into – should I say many niche things – what stitches all this together?”

My answer was Technology Infrastructure only focus and knowledge of them delivering Business Services.

Visit some of our client sites and you will find that every deployment is with same finesse. It will give you the impression that it was done by a company that is independent IdM player if visited our Insurance client or a hard core Datacentre Infra SI if visited AMD or for that matter a new age Remote Infrastructure Management company if visited our NOC/SOC and checked what we did for the worlds number 2 Spirits company.

The truth is some of the big names do all these for the same reason as we do. Should it be treated otherwise if a small company did it? I will like to hear from you…

Did I forget telling that we are among a few of the Advanced Specilization partners for Unified Communication and Security with Cisco; and did I forget telling how companies like TCS are taking advantage of us in IT Automation thru our Altiris partnership? :)

Interesting read on HPC trends, just wondering if IDC missed writing how Locuz would be the Global Challenger :)

Trends in IT Managment – 2008

Trends 1 Comment »

Reading thru this article on trends from EMA, I realize there is not one that can be denied. Truth be told, I think some of these trends are dependent on the planning stage of lifecycle and therefore methodology for Systems Integration.

So another important trend I think is “Planning Orchestration”.

Should planning be treated as a trend? My take is Yes!

Our approach block simply has been about these trends and more, and is complete representation of my suggestion thru the outer most box.

802.11n, the nexgen WLAN – will it replace wired ethernet?

Trends 3 Comments »

With current data rates up to 300Mbits/s, this nexgen wireless technology will replace plus be new choice for most wired Ethernet implementations. VoIP is likely to get the boost unlike anytime before. It also will make its way to set-top boxes, camcorders, and most gizmos around you that you wished Wi-Fi offered Hi-Fi and Hi-Def quality.

This is possible with MIMO technology with spatial multiplexing that 802.11n uses and promises up to Gbits/sec speeds.

All the classic technology laws will soon apply so any qualms about availability, security and performance will soon be behind us.

The technology got thumbs up with Draft 2.0 approved by IEEE 802.11 working group. And looks there is nothing else we need to wait for. At Locuz we just kept pace as before and made the necessary tie-ups that we will soon announce.

More importantly we are going to be performing some extensive tests on streaming audio and video for putting the technology to specialized applications besides Business as usual environments – again particularly Enterprise VoIP.

VMWORLD 2007 …VEWORLD 2008

Events, Trends 1 Comment »

That is my title for the event the Industry champions (VMware, Cisco, Sun, Microsoft, NetApp, EMC, BEA, Oracle etc.) should come together to organise. VMWORLD 2007 was not enough for the appetite of Technology Infrastructure community.

It is no more about Virtual Machines but Virtual Enterprise and orchestration across environments of Compute, Storage, Network, Security, Database, Desktop and perhaps process frameworks plus their automation for Business Service Management.

It should discuss models engineered for each environment and relationships among models.

Just wonder what scale would VEWORLD then mean (Delegates – 10,000 X 6, may be 7/8??)…
